Severin Casts Vote for Balanced Budget, Highlights Reforms and Increased Education Funding

Springfield….State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) issued the following statement after a late Friday night House vote that saw the State’s FY 2020 budget pass on a bipartisan roll call.

“Negotiations in the House resulted in more funding for schools in Southern Illinois, a paying down of backlogged bills, and true reforms for our business community,” Severin said. “I give credit to House Republican leadership, our great staff, and the people of my district that reached out to me to express what their needs are.

This is a yes vote for a balanced, bipartisan budget. The state will make the fully required pension payment that at one time was going to be skipped. This budget means Illinois will finally live within its means for the first time since I’ve been in Springfield. This is a step in the right direction, but there are many steps left to take.”
