Severin Critical of Pritzker’s Signature on New Maps

BENTON – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) issued the following statement on Friday upon learning Governor JB Pritzker has signed a second version of legislative maps  that passed on straight party lines on August 31st during a Special Session of the General Assembly. Severin served as a member of the Illinois House Redistricting Committee.

“When Democrats passed legislative maps in May, it came on the heels of one of the least transparent, most political processes in the country. Republicans demanded an independent commission be established to take politics out of map-making. Democrats in the supermajorities in the House and Senate drew a gerrymandered map that favors their party behind closed doors, while ignoring the pleas from independent good government groups to create a fairer process and less political product.”
