Rep. Severin: $17 Million in Capital Funds for Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center to Bring Jobs, Tourism, Economic Development

WHITTINGTON – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) joined officials from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and local elected officials for a special announcement at Rend Lake Resort on Wednesday. Rep. Severin says $17 million will be released from Rebuild Illinois funds to rehabilitate and refurbish the shuttered resort and conference center.

“Today is one of the best days for Southern Illinois I can remember in a long time,” Severin said. “Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center has sat idle for far too long, so I am proud to join Senator Bryant and other local elected officials and officials from IDNR in announcing the release of $17 million in funding to rehabilitate and renovate the facility.”

Severin says the project will mean tourism, jobs, and economic development opportunities for years to come.

”We have a gem in Rend Lake and the surrounding area., We have to capitalize on this resource every way that we can,” Severin said. “Rehabbing the Rend Lake Resort and Conference Center, and the Boatels and areas surrounding the facility will mean Southern Illinois can offer a top-flight place to recreate, stay, host conferences and special events, all while providing golf, camping, fishing, hunting, and exploring. Thank you to everyone that worked to make today’s announcement a reality.”
