Rep. Severin to Host Pro-Life Policy Virtual Legislative Update

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) is set to host a Pro-Life Policy Virtual Legislative Update on the evening of April 24, 2023. Rep. Severin says legislation pending in Springfield that would target services provided by Crisis Pregnancy Centers in Illinois is threatening the quality of life and health care for women facing crisis pregnancies.

“I have been inundated with communications from constituents concerned about SB 1909, legislation that would interfere with services provided to women facing crisis pregnancy situations that seek help at Crisis Pregnancy Centers throughout the state,” Severin said. “As a pro-life legislator, I am deeply concerned that our state has been lurching to the left on the abortion issue and now Democrats are coming for crisis pregnancy centers that provide services to women in crisis situations that wish to carry their pregnancy to term.”

SB 1909 would allow the Illinois Attorney General to investigate crisis pregnancy centers and impose tens of thousands of dollars in fines for actions taken by the centers that the Attorney General’s office deems to be in violation of the act including distributing “wrong information” or “misinformation” to its clients.

SB 1909 is set for a Health Care Availability & Accessibility Committee Committee hearing on at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 in Springfield. If constituents wish to fill out a witness slip to express their opinion:
