Severin Calls IDES Fraud and Overpayments “Inexcusable”

BENTON – A recent audit report from the Illinois Auditor General revealed that the State paid out more than $5 billion in fraudulent or excessive unemployment claims over two years. State Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) says the people of the state of Illinois deserve answers.

“This most recent report detailing more than $5 billion in fraudulent pandemic payments during and after the COVID-19 pandemic is completely inexcusable,” Severin said. “After the lockdowns cost people their jobs and businesses, we now see the taxpayer is on the hook for billions in fraudulent payments. That sounds like a raw deal to me, and one that we need answers from this administration and officials from the Department of Employment Security.”
