Rep. Severin Kicks off Annual Summer Reading Program for 1st – 4th Grade Students, Offers Pool Party at Mt. Vernon Aquatic Zoo for Participants

BENTON – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) is once again sponsoring his Annual Summer Reading Program for 1st through 4th grade students residing in the 116th district. Severin says this year, students who read 8 or more books will be invited to attend a pool party at the Mt. Vernon Aquatic Zoo on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

“I’m thrilled to once again sponsor this year’s ‘Oceans of Possibilities’ Summer Reading Program. I look forward to this event every year. I love encouraging students to keep reading during their summer break and to give them some incentive to do so,” Severin said. “We will have a great time hosting a pool party for the students who successfully participate in the program. I welcome all 1st through 4th graders in the 116th district to participate!”

Representative Dave Severin’s Oceans of Possibilities summer reading club challenges 1st through 4th graders to read 8 books during their summer break. Books for local library programs are also acceptable, and books over 150 pages may count as 2 books. Once a student completes reading 8 books, a parent or guardian can verify that the books were read by submitting their summer reading form through the mail to 805 N. Main Street, Benton, IL 62812. Online forms may be submitted at RepSeverin.com/summer-reading. Completed forms are due no later than Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Students can inquire about the program by calling (618) 440-5090 or by emailing [email protected].
