Severin Collecting Petition Signatures to End Illinois Sanctuary State Law

BENTON, IL – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) has been a vocal opponent of Illinois’ Sanctuary State policies. As incidents of violence committed by illegal immigrants continue to occur in Illinois, Severin says he’s had enough of the lawlessness and crime. In addition to sponsoring HB 1317, legislation that would repeal the TRUST Act (Illinois’ Sanctuary State law), Severin is collecting signatures on an online petition for residents to express their desire to repeal the law.

“I have been disgusted time after time to see illegal immigrant criminals released back onto our streets to commit further crimes when these individuals should have been reported to the Federal government to deport them,” Severin said.

Severin says that the recent killing of Sheridan Gorman by an illegal immigrant in the city of Chicago is just the latest example of the failures of the Sanctuary State. Rep. Severin says the rights of illegals are prioritized over those of Illinois citizens, and that should change.

“I believe the people of Illinois are tired of seeing the rights of illegal aliens prioritized over the safety of Illinois citizens,” Severin said. That’s why I’m sponsoring a petition to gather signatures to send the message to the Governor and the Supermajority Democrats in the House and Senate that ‘We the People’ want the Sanctuary State policies ended in Illinois.”
