Severin Opposes Democrat Led Attacks on Second Amendment Rights

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) is sounding off against new restrictive gun legislation currently pending in Springfield, as the scheduled May 31 adjournment date looms.

Severin says multiple pieces of legislation are moving through the process, and he plans to oppose any new restrictions on 2nd Amendment Rights and law-abiding citizens.

“House Democrats keep attacking Second Amendment rights in Illinois. This has been an ongoing battle this year as Dems propose bill after bill to punish law-abiding gun owners. I will continue to stand against any measures that infringe on the Second Amendment in our state,” Severin said.

A Glock Ban (HB 4471) passed out of committee on Wednesday. The bill would ban the future sale of Glock-style semi-automatic handguns. Severin reports that he will vote no on the measure, as well as any ammunition taxes (HB 4414) or further regulation on legal gun owners.

Severin says he will also oppose the RIFL Act (HB 3320).

“The RIFL Act is being presented as a tool to address gun violence, but it places new burdens on law-abiding citizens rather than focusing on the individuals who are actually committing violent crimes,” Severin said.
