BENTON, IL – State Representative Dave Severin is reminding families that Friday, July 24, is the deadline for students to submit completed forms for his 2026 “Read All About It! – America 250” Summer Reading Club.
The program encourages incoming first through fourth grade students to stay engaged in reading during summer break by reading eight books. Students who complete the challenge will receive an official Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Recognition and an invitation to a free end-of-summer pool party at the Mt. Vernon Aquatic Zoo on Sunday, August 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“Summer reading helps students maintain strong academic skills while school is out and encourages a lifelong love of learning,” Rep. Severin said. “I encourage every eligible student to finish their reading, submit their forms, and join us as we celebrate their hard work.”
Books read through local library summer reading programs count toward the eight-book requirement, and books longer than 150 pages may be counted as two books. Completed reading logs must be verified by a parent or guardian before submission.
Reading logs may be submitted online or returned by mail no later than Friday, July 24.
For complete program details or to submit a reading log online, visit Rep. Severin’s Summer Reading Club page.
