BENTON – State Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) is urging residents and parents of school-aged children to contact Governor JB Pritzker and the Speaker of the House and Senate President following the most recent mask mandate handed down by the governor on Wednesday. The new rules from Pritzker will mean public and private schools in Illinois will be required to have their students wear face coverings while in class.
“I know parents are absolutely sick of the endless executive orders and mask requirements for their students. This will now be the 3rd school year to be impacted by the governor’s dictates,” Severin said. “I’m a duly elected member of an equal branch of government. The governor has not consulted with the legislature in making these decisions. The governor has not consulted with local school boards and school officials, choosing once again to take a top-down approach. What we’re doing to our children is very hard to watch. I don’t believe this is the right course of action and I think the decision should be left up to local school boards and administrators.”
