SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) has filed legislation (HB 5845) in coordination with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) that would facilitate the transfer of possession of the Southern Illinois Arts and Artisans Building from the IDNR to the Rend Lake Conservancy District. Severin says the bill is an initiative he has worked on for months in coordination with both IDNR and RLCD officials.
”I am very proud of the cooperation and the results that we have been able to achieve by working together with IDNR and Rend Lake Conservancy District,” Severin said. “This is an example of government working together for the best interests of the people of Southern Illinois.”
Rend Lake Conservancy District will pay the State of Illinois the sum of $531,667 for the property. Severin says he expects the legislation to move quickly.
”The officials at IDNR and within the Governor’s office are wanting this deal to move quickly to ensure Rend Lake Conservancy District acquires this property and takes over its management as soon as possible,” Severin said. “I will be working closely with officials from both RLCD and IDNR to ensure the bill passes as soon as possible.”
