Severin Votes No on Bill Targeting Crisis Pregnancy Centers with Huge Fines

SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) voted NO on legislation that would allow for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office to investigate claims of fraud and misinformation leveled against crisis pregnancy centers in the State of Illinois. Severin says Illinois Democrats have repeatedly passed legislation that removes every shred of regulation of abortion services throughout the past several years.

“Illinois Democrats have now crossed fully over from a “pro-choice” party to being the pro-abortion party,” Severin said. “Crisis pregnancy centers offer counseling, ultrasounds, and other non-abortion services to pregnant women. Democrats in Illinois have already removed every restriction possible on abortion including allowing partial birth abortion and allowing taxpayer funded abortion on demand up to and including the moment of birth. But that’s not enough, now they want to unfairly target, punish, and financially ruin pregnancy centers that provide services other than abortion. It is despicable.”

Under the bill, pregnancy care centers that offer ultrasounds, counseling, and other pregnancy related services would be subject to investigations and potential fines of up to $50,000 per infraction as determined by the Illinois Attorney General’s office.

All House Republicans voted no on the measure. The bill passed xx-xx and will now head to Governor Pritzker’s desk.
