Severin Blasts Democrats’ $56 Billion Budget: “Out-of-Control Spending, Higher Taxes, and Backwards Priorities”

SPRINGFIELD, IL – In the dead of night on the final day of session, Illinois Democrats rammed through a nearly $56 billion state budget that doubles down on higher taxes, reckless spending, and policies that continue to hurt working families across Southern Illinois. State Representative Dave Severin voted no and issued the following statement.

“Once again, Illinois Democrats passed a bloated, nearly $56 billion budget in the dead of night that raises costs and doubles down on out-of-control spending. Families in Southern Illinois are already struggling, but instead of providing relief, Springfield politicians are piling on new taxes and higher fees.

Under Governor J.B. Pritzker, spending has skyrocketed by 40%, yet Democrats continue to prioritize hundreds of millions of dollars for those here illegally while our most vulnerable citizens are left behind.

To make matters worse, this budget is packed with pork projects and insider spending, while hardworking taxpayers are forced to pay more of their hard-earned money for our failed energy policies and out-of-control spending.

Illinois families deserved real relief. Instead, they got more of the same.”
