BENTON, IL – State Representative Dave Severin (R-Benton) released the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker signed the Fiscal Year 2027 state budget into law:
“Governor Pritzker has officially put his stamp of approval on the largest spending plan in Illinois history. At nearly $56 billion, this budget grows government while asking hardworking families and small businesses to foot the bill through almost $800 million in new taxes and fees.
“I voted against this budget because Illinoisans cannot afford another year of reckless spending and higher taxes. Families are already struggling with rising utility bills, grocery costs, and property taxes. Instead of providing relief, the Governor and legislative Democrats doubled down on bigger government and more spending.
“Illinois deserves a balanced, transparent budget that lives within our means—not one built on late-night deals, record spending, and higher taxes.”
